a spontaneous adventure
What to do on a beautiful Sunday in Sonoma?
This past Sunday, yes the last Sunday of 2013 was at least 70 degrees warm with crystal clear skies. I grabbed my friend Gary, and we decided to get out of town and head to the coast. We could have been on vacation in another country as we drove the windy roads through sun-burnt hills and livestock filled meadows.
Deep breath – beautiful views – simple joy.
Should we turn right or left? Left for sure, I think. The smell changed, the pastoral landscape changed to deep blue waters, and the sounds changed – the seagulls.
Just ahead, there are lines of cars banked on the shoulder all leading towards The Marshall Store. OYSTERS! As luck called it, a parking space appeared and lunch was in sight.
Gary selected a perfect bottle of Bucklin rose, and it was the right choice for our combination of luscious raw oysters, BBQ oysters with bacon and worcestershire sauce and some creamy white clam chowder. We enjoyed this repast at the counter facing the bay, enjoying the company, the wine, the oysters, the sun and of course the view!
Just as we were nearly finished our lunch, we spotted some friends who apparently had the same great idea as we did, we sauntered over, joined them and the afternoon became even more enjoyable.
