Extra! Extra!  #figchronicles has arrived!

We’re so excited to share with you the first Volume of our in-house publication: #figchronicles.

Full of local insights, our favorite recipes, thoughts on all-things-fig, and (of course) beautiful food photography.  We hope this will be the first of many – and that you’ll stop by the girl & the fig or the fig cafe very soon to pick up your (complimentary) copy.

Also highly recommended – enjoying #figchronicles alongside a glass of something delicious!

Wine Wednesday: Three Clicks 2015 Grenache Blanc, Rockpile Vineyards, Sonoma County

As you may know, since the very beginning the girl & the fig has boasted an exclusively Rhône-alone” wine list.

We’ve always loved that featuring unique Rhône wines gives us an opportunity to begin a conversation with our guests, perhaps introduce them to something new, as well as to present talented and innovative producers we believe in.

In honor of “Wine Wednesday,” a little about one of our beloved California Rhône producers –

This week: Three Clicks 2015 Grenache Blanc, Rockpile Vineyards, Sonoma County

The Story of Three Clicks

According to his own account, Harry Allen Smith, a famous journalist and humorist in the thirties was the first American to legally consume alcohol after the repeal of the Eighteenth Amendment. He claimed to have bribed a telegraph operator to send a “three-click” advance warning just before sending out the message that Prohibition had been repealed.  With this notice, he was able to take the first legal drink after the repeal.  We honor the ingenuity of that very first legal drink with this bottle of wine.

Tasting Notes:

This Grenache Blanc has aromas of tangerine, honeysuckle, pear, nectarine, and tropical flowers. It has vibrant acidity and refreshing quality. The palate is fruit driven with flavors of tangerine, lime, and nectarines. The wine is has viscosity and weight across the mouth, and the body is fulfilling in texture. This Grenache Blanc finishes with lingering stone fruit flavors.

At the girl & the fig we’d recommend pairing Three Clicks 2015 Grenache Blanc with the grilled vegetable panini (garden eggplant, zucchini, peppers, grilled onions, goat cheese, arugula, basil pesto, summer salad) or wild king salmon (romano beans, olives, mint, Gravenstein apple butter).

At home, try it with a ginger chicken or curried fish.

Venue Highlight: Annadel Estate Winery

Annadel Estate Winery is a magical location surrounded by Sonoma Valley’s rolling hills, vineyards, and gardens.

First established in the 1880s, but neglected for decades, Dean Bordigoni and his family purchased the estate in 2007 and brought it back to life. Annadel is now a thriving, elegant, and world-class wedding and event venue.

We highly recommend a visit to Annadel to experience their organic farm, beautiful vineyards, and exquisite heirloom flower gardens!

Walking through the winding paths and gardens of Annadel, you’re surrounded by volleyball-sized hydrangeas, roses, and an array of native flowers which thrive in Sonoma’s climate and soils.

The family lives on the estate and host most of the wine tastings and tours. Dean Bordigoni produces award-winning wines – however, they’ve become equally renowned for their gorgeous heirloom roses.

For wedding ceremonies, Annadel Estate Winery is centrally located in Sonoma’s Valley of the Moon, “nestled among 40 acres of rolling green vineyards, heirloom roses, and majestic woodlands.”

This venue is a lush and romantic setting for a couple dreaming of a rustic, yet elegant, wedding. There are beautiful lawns stretching down to acres of rose gardens. Your guests will be surrounded by the aroma of roses and ancient California Heritage oaks as a back-drop to your vows.

The use of the courtyard for your ceremony creates a sense of intimacy and connection between you and your guests.

Before the ceremony, brides can ready themselves in Annadel’s clapboard Bridal Cottage – it’s the perfect location for pre-wedding prep or a quiet resting place for family members.

Behind the ivy-enveloped stone ruins and fronted by the old oaks is an authentic barn which has been weathered by the decades. The barn may be used for evening reception, dinner, or dancing.

For those romantic souls considering an elopement, Annadel offers elopement packages, as well.

Annadel Estate Winery offers couples ambiance, intimacy and connection in this charming and rustic location.

It is the perfect landscape for creating life-long memories.

Why we love catering at Annadel Estate Winery:
  • Beautiful, authnetic ruins
  • Exclusive use of clapboard Bridal Cottage
  • Authentic turn-f-the-century barn
  • Gorgeous flower gardens

Many thanks to Megan Welker for the beautiful photos featured in this post!

“Out beyond the ideas of wrong doing and right doing there is a field…I’ll meet you there.”  ~Rumi

Experience Campovida.  Known for their handcrafted, sustainably produced wines, the historic Hopland ranch turned vineyard and organic farm has become, in its most recent incarnation, an epicenter of art, food, and community.

On August 4th, we’re thrilled to partner with the Campovida team, Proprietors Gary & Anna and Winemaker Sebastian Donoso, for their Third Annual Winemaker Dinner at Suite D. If you’re not familiar with the all the goings-on at Campovida, we encourage you to plan a visit to their stunning property!

We look forward to hosting this talented group (and enjoying their delicious wines!) and hope you’ll join us August 4th for an exceptional food & wine experience.
