Cruising Sonoma: Harvest Season

‘Tis the season! Harvest season, that is!

Sonoma County’s “crush” takes place primarily during September and October. During these months, wineries all over Sonoma host events and celebrations that allow you to participate in their wine-making process, as well as taste delicious wines-in-progress!

Here is a list of a few not-to-miss “crush” events of the 2016 season!

“Flavors of Fall” at KORBEL

Join KORBEL for crush!  California champagne and food pairings featuring recipes from Chef John Ash’s ‘Cooking Wild’ & ‘Culinary Birds.’  Purchase the book and have him sign while you’re here!  Behind the scenes tram tours of the vineyards & crush facilities. Admission includes a logoed glass.

Sonoma Valley Crush – a Hands-on Harvest Experience – September 16, 17 & 18, 2016


Have you ever romanticized about wine country during harvest? Find out what it’s like this September in the heart of Sonoma Valley. Join in an intimate harvest experience – the 2016 Sonoma Valley Crush.

You’ll not only get a behind-the-scenes look at what happens during harvest, you’ll have the opportunity to get involved. For three days, wineries will be offering a variety of Harvest Activities including Grape Sampling in the vineyards, Crush Pad tours, and samples of Fresh Pressed Juice. You may even taste a wine while it’s fermenting.

Sonoma County Harvest Fair – September 30th – October 2nd

The Harvest Fair marks it’s 42nd year of showcasing our county’s grand harvest which continues to result in world-class wines, award winning beer and a plethora of culinary wealth. Last year, with over 26,000 votes, the Harvest Fair was voted the Best Annual Festival of Sonoma County bestowed by The Press Democrat readers. Each October, thirsty travelers from over thirty different states, are beckoned to Santa Rosa to participate in a complete farm to table experience, inspired by the county’s hard working farmer’s, ranchers, vintners and producers.

Harvest Festival at Landmark Vineyards – October 1st


Join Landmark Vineyards for their annual Harvest Festival. This immensely popular annual festival also features delicious food, bocce ball, live music, and plenty more wine.

Celebrate the bounty of Harvest as you taste through current releases paired with the finest fare from local vendors.

Cellar Sessions at Tin Barn Vineyards – Thursdays (by appointment) through October 20th


With the heart of its operation in the cellar, Tin Barn Vineyards has earned a reputation for celebrating the winemaking process, from grapes to glass. This harvest season, the hidden-gem winery will present a weekly series of tastings highlighting the beauty of harvest season: “Cellar Sessions.” 

Cellar Sessions invites guests to the Tin Barn Vineyards tasting room, located adjacent to its production cellar on Eighth Street East in Sonoma. Experienced staff will lead an educational tasting, featuring insight from winemaker Michael Lancaster. Depending on the day’s harvest activity, guests may sample fresh-pressed juice or barrel samples, witness the crush process, or observe punchdowns. There is no better time of the year to visit Tin Barn Vineyards!

Food pairings from the girl & the fig CATERS! will accompany each tasting.

Join us and some of our favorite local winemakers for incredible pours on Thursday evenings from 5:30 ’til the tastes run out! Winemakers will provide complimentary tastings of their limited edition, Sonoma-centric creations for you to enjoy – and you’ll be able to chat with the makers in person! No reservations required. Stop in and say hello at Roche Winery on Tuesday nights!  We’ll be serving dinner beginning at 5 pm, and Roche is pouring their delicious wines on the patio!


Sunday Supper Club at Suite D – September 18th, 25th


Suite D is making Sunday the new Saturday with a relaxing Sunday supper. Remember when Sunday dinner was the best night of the week – when you put everything aside to sit down to really savor a meal with your loved ones? Come gather around the table at Suite D for a leisurely meal with family and friends. Kick back, relax, and leave the cooking to us. You deserve it!

Valley of the Moon Vintage Festival – September 23rd – 25th

Since 1897 the Valley of the Moon Vintage Festival has been celebrating the Sonoma Valley’s bounty, community, and local culture. California’s oldest festival, this Sonoma tradition takes place the last full weekend of September in downtown Sonoma’s historic Plaza. Taste great wine, sample delicious food and dance under the stars to live music. It’s summer in Sonoma and the fun keeps going throughout the entire weekend on the plaza including more wine tasting, grape stomp, fire fighter activity, “Get Your Glow On” Night Parade, 5K/12K & Tiny Tot race, 80+ artists, great food & bar, live music, plus family fun in the Kid Zone on Saturday and Sunday.



Food Truck Fridays @ Sebastiani – September 30th, 6 PM


Find the fig rig at Sebstiani’s annual Friday Night Music Series!!

Wines-by-the-glass or by-the-bottle will be available for purchase. You are welcome to bring a picnic dinner or snacks to enjoy inside or out in the courtyard. The last Friday of each month will be “Food Truck Friday” featuring an enticing line-up of local gourmet food trucks selling tasty treats to pair with your music enjoyment.

(This is a family friendly event. Children and well-behaved pets are welcome.)

Andrews Hall, housing the most coveted seats in Sonoma Valley for 100 years – the place of welcoming for inspired community gatherings – now hosts its first original production in over a year on Friday evening, October 14th, 2016 with an evening exclusively designed for The Sonoma Community Center, in celebration of its 100th Anniversary.

An evening for community, with community, by community! Guests include our own, Sondra BernsteinSue Albano, whose muse is mystical chanteuse Stevie Nicks, as evoked by Sonoma Valley’s own chanteuse of Heart and The Sue Albano Band, Kelly Mather, President and Chief Executive Officer of The Sonoma Valley Hospital, and her Five Keys to Wellness; George Bevan, associate member of the American Institute of Architects, developing the new Architecture of Community; Amy and Fred Groth of Prohibition Spirits, Quenching Thirsts and Educating palates!

We will be hosting winemakers Ari Heavner & Ben Larks for an intimate dinner at Suite D. Join us for an inspired pairing menu, featuring the best the season has to offer including vegetables from the farm project, as well as captivating surprises from the chef!

Idle Cellars was born of a friendship-turned-partnership between Berkeley-native Heavner, and L.A.-born artist Larks. These craftsmen pride themselves in creating “elegantly balanced wine as equal in technical mastery, as grace of art,” and their handiwork is nothing short of amazing. Come and learn more about their process, and taste some of the best of Sonoma.

Marin French Cheese’s Annual “Summer Picnic Party”

The beloved Marin French Cheese Company is planning their second annual Summer Picnic Party, to be held Sunday August 21, 2016 from 11 – 3.

Join the fig rig and 27 other food and beverage vendors on the idyllic grounds of the creamery (still known to locals as the Cheese Factory), just 10 miles west of Petaluma.

Beat the heat with delicious sips poured by Carneros Brewing Company, Cline Cellars, Silverado Vineyards and Sonoma Portworks; non-alcoholic libations from Tea & Trumpets will include a variety of freshly home-brewed iced teas.

There will be something for everyone at this family-centered event, including cheese-making, beekeeping, and garden art projects for the kids!  Feast from an assortment of food trucks and local vendors, while enjoying live music by NO PARDON.
